Wheat Idly

1) Soak the urid dahl for 2 hours. Soak the cracked wheat separately  for an hour. Grind the urid dhal nicely. Since the wheat is cracked no need to grind it. Mix the ground urid dhal,soaked wheat, curd (1/4 cup) and salt. Mix the batter well and let it ferment for 6 to 7 hours

2) After 6 hours your batter will be ready to make idlies

3) Cut all the vegetables into small pieces. cut the onion, ginger  and green chili into small pieces

4) Heat up the oil in a pan. Add the channa dhal  and fry it till it gets golden brown and then add urid dhal and mustard seeds. Once the mustard seed crackle add the onion, ginger, green chili and curry leaves

 DSC02306 5) When the onion slightly transparent, add all the vegetables and saute it for only 30 seconds. Since we are going to steam it, no need to cook it well DSC023086) Add  the vegetable mixture in to the batter. Mix it well and make the idlies.  After 10 minutes your Wheat idly will be  ready

DSC02348This wheat idly is a great substitute for Rice Idly. It will go well with coconut chutney, tomato chutney as well as sambar
