DIRECTIONS

1) Wash the potatoes and pressure cook it for 3 to 4 whistles. After the pressure settles down completely, take the potatoes. Peel the skin and smash the potatoes ( don’t smash it completely, leave some cubes)

2) Slice the onion, cut the tomatoes, (optional) and slit the green chilies

3) Heat up the oil in a pan and add the Channa dal. When the channa dal turns into a golden brown color, add the mustard and urad dal seeds

4) After the mustard seeds crackles add the onion, curry leaf, and green chili

 5) After a minute add tomato and ginger and saute it for a minute

6) Add a cup of water, turmeric powder and salt. Once the water startes to boil add the mashed potatoes

7) When the gravy gets thicker, switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves

This Potato masal is suitable for puri, roti and masal dosa
